I just posted the story so people can look at the red tail hawk and anyone who drives Sweetwater by the power poles will recognize this bird. We have several of them that use the power poles for perches.

If the Yahoo link works, there is some good raw footage video that shows the bird in several different angles

We also have 1 bald eagle that has been mostly by Eagle Mtn blvd this year.

And occasionally you can see the golden eagle like what is pictured on
http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=2913301 perched on the bushes with ravens.

Isn't it nice to have a name for the birds you drive by?

I've seen the bald eagle a couple of along EM Blvd, and several other times in the trees just off the south side of SR73 in Fairfield. I've also had the pleasure of running into the golden eagle a couple of times - once almost literally. He was in the middle of the road at the top of Five Mile Pass breakfasting on some roadkill when I was on my way home after working a night shift. He wasn't about to leave that dead bunny, and if I hadn't hit the brakes HARD, he would have been roadkill also.

Really an impressive bird when up close and personal, only a couple of feet from your windshield. He seems to like hanging out on the Rush Valley side of the pass more than on the Cedar Valley side.

It's too bad that the population growth out here has scared the coyotes too far out to hear at night, but at least the raptors still come around sometimes. Keep your eyes peeled, especially if you go over in the direction of Tooele. Lots of hawks, antelope and deer; occasional eagles, coyotes, owls, badgers, foxes, elk ..... and a billion bunnies.
